Note: This is applicable to any career in any field. I have applied it to teaching.
Before stepping into the next school year, your school, and classroom, do you have a Manifesto? According to Merriam-Webster, a manifesto is “a written statement declaring publicly the intentions, motives, or views of its issuer.” There can be a class manifesto, but I urge you to start with your own manifesto. It will guide your work as you walk into your classroom, staff meetings, and onto the playground.
To write your own, start with imagining yourself as a Super Teacher! You have super teaching powers and plan to execute the best learning environment and activities. Create a super teacher name even! Below you will see mine.
Super Teacher Name: ZipZap
Description: Time is no issue, she stops to help, give, do, encourage, and sing to the tune of friendship. Call on her when you feel blue or need a friend on an adventure.
Now that you have that mindset. What are your goals and promises for the year? What outcomes are set to ensure?
My Manifesto (2014)
We will learn from one another. Sometimes I will be the teacher, and sometimes I will be the student.
I will ask questions and listen to you.
I will bring a sense of humor and smile to school everyday.
I will give you a safe place to learn and take risks.
We will share ideas and do new things together.
I’ll be getting into the 2017-2018 school year mindset soon and the first thing I plan to do, is update My Manifesto! Join me!
